- “An Overview of Hospice and/or Palliative Care” outlines the services provided, who qualifies, how it works and costs.
- “Communication with the Seriously Ill” covers what can we say or do that might be helpful to the seriously ill person and those who are caring for them; also basic compassionate listening and communication skills.
- “Ethical Issues at the End of Life” how you can make and document your end-of-life choices to prevent family disputes and friction-- Advance care planning, codes, tube feedings, IV’s, funeral plans, and even who gets what “stuff”.
- “How Men and Women Grieve Differently” includes tasks of the bereaved, characteristics of normal grief, offering support, and what to say and not to say.
- “Helping Children Cope with Death and Grief” the understanding of death and the grief response at different age and developmental levels; how to help the child; when to seek help outside the family.
- “Pain and Symptom Management Near the End of Life” symptoms that may be commonly experienced near the end of life and how the hospice or palliative care team can help.
- “Hospice/Veterans Partnership” learn how the Veterans Administration and local community hospice programs are partnering to meet the needs of dying veterans.
- “A Day in the Life of a Volunteer” what a volunteer for hospice and palliative care does and how it helps patients and families and the organization. Includes training and the different opportunities and jobs available to the volunteer.
