First Baby of 2017

Wolff family Jan 2017 CopyJon Wolff and his wife, Samantha of Tomah said they were “very surprised” that their daughter, Maisy Rae was the first baby born at Tomah Memorial Hospital in 2017. Maisy arrived at 8:39 a.m. Jan. 3 weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces and 20 inches long.

“We were really excited and anxious to meet her,” said Samantha.

Maisy is the couple’s first child. The couple, who are both teachers in the Tomah School District said it was a little difficult selecting a name considering all the students they have had over the years. “We wanted something a little unique and we both really liked it when we heard it,” Samanatha said of their daughter's name.

As the first baby born in 2017, the couple received an infant car seat from the New Beginnings Birth Center staff at Tomah Memorial.

Hospital marketing and public relations director Eric Prise said since the Wolff baby, three additional births have taken place at TMH making for a busy start to the year. He said 307 babies, including 154 girls and 153 boys were born at the hospital in 2016 compared to 331 in 2015. Prise said the hospital has averaged 311 births a year over the past five years.
