Local contributions play an essential role in helping Tomah Memorial Hospital meet the health care needs of our community.

A contribution to Tomah Memorial Hospital is not used to pay salaries or offset operating expenses… it goes directly toward the purchase of new medical equipment, to community outreach projects and making necessary improvements to our physical facilities.

Contributions provide dignity and peace of mind with funding for Hospice and community outreach projects. Past contributions used for necessary operations have helped save lives. These important contributions could not have been secured without the compassion and commitment of individuals and private businesses to maintaining health care in our area.

Tomah Memorial Hospital needs your continued support. A contribution can be made in a number of ways… through cash contributions… memorials... endowments… and estate or deferred gifts by bequest or other forms of planned giving.

Giving to Tomah Memorial Hospital ensures that up-to-date health care is available to your and to future generations.

You can specify the needs you
want to contribute to

When you give to Tomah Memorial Hospital, your donation can be specified as either “restricted” or “unrestricted.” A “restricted” gift means you want your contribution to go for a specific purpose. An “unrestricted” gift allows Tomah Memorial Hospital to purchase items that the Foundation has thoroughly researched and determined to be a priority.

The following are restricted needs you may want to specifically contribute to:

In addition to the needs mentioned above, you can also designate your contribution to be used for medical equipment or a specific area.

Methods of giving

GIFTS OF CASH are the most popular and simple to make. All cash contributions are fully deductible-up to a maximum of 50% of your adjusted gross income. Some employers will match your charitable gifts, meaning your gifts are worth even more. Simply enclose your company's matching gifts program form along with your check.

GIFTS OF STOCK may provide the donor a greater tax advantage. A gift of appreciated stock generally offers a two-fold tax savings. First, you avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock. Second, you can deduct from your income tax, the full, fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE can also be a tax-wise gift. A residence, vacation home, farm, acreage, or vacant lot may have appreciated in value to the point that the capital gain tax on its sale would be substantial. By making a gift of property, one can avoid any capital gains tax and also receive a charitable deduction for the full, fair market value of the property.

GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE can provide a significant charitable deduction. You can purchase a new policy, or donate a policy you own but no longer need. To receive the deduction, designate Tomah Memorial Hospital Foundation as both the owner and beneficiary of your policy. Check with your insurance agent for details.

Memorial and honor gifts

Gifts to remember or honor a relative or friend are a lasting tribute. Whether honoring friends on a special occasion or celebrating the memory of a loved one, the most meaningful gift is one that lasts.

A gift to Tomah Memorial Hospital in the name of the person or persons you wish to honor provides both the giver and the recognized… or bereaved family… with the satisfaction of having made an important contribution to the continuing welfare of the community.

The Endowment Fund

The Endowment Fund ensures that designated funds are permanently set aside and invested to generate philanthropic resources, with expenditures made from the income while the principal remains intact.

Because only the interest of the Endowment Fund can be used, your contribution designated for Endowment forms a solid foundation from which Tomah Memorial Hospital can build for the future.

By giving to the Endowment Fund you are perpetuating your values beyond your own lifetime. Gifts to the Fund can be made in honor or in memory of yourself or of someone you love. You can give to the Fund now, or make arrangements to contribute to Endowment through a bequest, life insurance or other form of planned giving.

Estate and planned gifts

Wills: The most time-honored form of estate gift is a specific bequest in a will. Important tax savings can result from this type of contribution, since bequests to Tomah Memorial Hospital may qualify for an estate tax deduction.

Gifts in Trust: Benefactors who wish to receive income during their lives while, at the same time, providing a significant gift to Tomah Memorial Hospital may wish to consider establishing a charitable trust.

Consult your attorney for advice on estate or planned giving. Foundation representatives are available on request to confer with you and your attorney.
